Nov 13, 2025 · Iron Mountain Public SchoolsA Taste of Puerto Rico in our CafeteriasYesterday, our students enjoyed a special treat- Puerto Rican rice, lovingly prepared by our own cafeteria team member Ingrid Pagan Gracia!
Ingrid moved to the U.P. from Puerto Rico in 2021 and says she’s grown to love life here. She wanted to share a piece of her culture with our students, cooking up this flavorful dish made with rice, sofrito (a blend of peppers, onions, cilantro, and spices), tomato, sazón, ham, and red beans.
Like many Puerto Ricans, Ingrid grew up eating this dish and learned to make it from her grandmother. Thank you, Ingrid, for bringing warmth, flavor, and culture to our cafeteria!
